A Very Happy 300th Birthday to RSA Group plc.

RSA Insurance Group plc (formerly Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group plc) is the holding company of the RSA group of companies whose principal activity is the transaction of personal and commercial insurance business.

The group, whose total assets exceed £22 billion* began life in 1710 as The Sun (the oldest insurance company still trading under its original name).

The Alliance was founded in 1824 and The Royal in 1845, a century witnessing the establishment of operations in North and South America, Australia and Africa. A presence was also held in China and India from 1852 until Nationalisation (the offices reopening in 1998 and 2000). The Alliance and The Royal merged in 1959.

1996 saw the merger of Royal Insurance and Sun Alliance to create one of the largest insurance companies in the United Kingdom – Royal & SunAlliance.

Following rebranding in 2008, the company now trades as RSA with operations in more than 30 countries. Many Happy Returns!
